The Canadian movie industry is happily jumping with so much attention to the Toronto International Film Festival. Well, well. Toronto International Film Festival brings all the glamorous actors to Toronto, all the parties will be hottier than the usual and the city will have all the attention with thousands of cameras and spotlights. But what we  want to see, Brazilians, and our own productions, such as Blindness, Last stop 174, Linha de passe, Once upon the time in Rio, Plastic City, which can give you a sip of what the Brazilian cinema is bringing to the globalized world as an emerging country, part of the BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India and China).

Blindness was shot in Toronto and in old penitentiary in Guelph by Fernando Meirelles, whose well known habit of not shooting the same scene over and over was in place. The film, an adaptation from Saramago’s book of same name, had lovers and haters in Cannes already, let’s see what’s is really about it. A good North American source said the movie doesn’t give you the thrill the book does.

Last stop 174 goes beyond the tragedy end of Sandro, who kidnapped a public bus in Rio. Director Bruno Barreto shows what was Sandro’s life, and why ended in the a tragic way.

Linha de passe shows a mother and her 4 kids struggling with life like part of Brazilians, which don’t look for the easy way out, it has soccer and religion backing it up. A must be seen movie.

Once upon a time shows you a Romeo and Juliet version of the Brazilian tragedy. It’s from the same director of Two sons of Francisco.

Some of this movies are sold out, but it’s worth to try it.

Once upon a time mostra um Romeu e Julieta ‘a la’ Brasil.

Alguns ingressos pra estes filmes foram esgotados, mas vale a pena tentar.[/lang_pt]Well, well.
